Marchesa Katrin Theodoli got her water wings years ago when she and her late husband, international yachtsman Marchese Filippo Theodoli, bought Magnum Marine Corporation, the Miami-based maker of what are the world’s fastest (more than 60 mph) and most luxurious high-performance sport yachts.
Among their first clients was the King of Sweden, who spotted the couple on one of their boats while he was vacationing in the Mediterranean and literally hailed them from a rock.
In 1990 the Marchese died, and Katrin bravely took the helm. She is riding a strong wave; sales of the handmade boats, some with Hermés-designed staterooms and lounges, tripled from the late 1980s to 1993 and are still rising. Katrin is partial to the banana-yellow Magnum 56.
