A luxury charter yacht vacation makes for some fantastic photo opportunities. Spending time with loved ones in some of the most beautiful places in the world on a beautiful super yacht does that. Here are our top tips to ensure you come home with the most stunning photographs ever – lasting memories of a dream vacation.
1. Get Close and Personal
While you will also want some “memory” pictures of the places that you are visiting some of the best holiday shots are those where the subject is clearly and obviously the subject. Not only do you lose all that background clutter, you also get a more engaged and intimate photo. As Robert Capa so succinctly said, “If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.”
2. The Detail Makes the Difference
Separating the elements in the photo and zooming into one of the small details opens up a magical world with a personality rather than just a view. Whether your subject is a person, a view, wildlife or a monument picking up a detail can create a much more interesting and unique image.
3. The Timing is Everything
For those postcard perfect holiday scenes then taking your photos in the right light is the key. Professional photographers swear by the “Golden Hour” (that first hour after sunrise and before sunset) when the light has a flattering warm golden glow. Early in the morning is also when you are most likely to get photos without the clutter of too many tourists about.
4. Family & Friends in Focus
While not all your photos should have your travelling companions in them you will definitely want some that do. However that pic of Junior in front of the Acropolis with a forced smile is probably not how you want to remember your trip. Instead try to take some dedicated “people” shots focusing on faces and emotions as well as some where the people in the shot tell a story – how much fun was that jetski … how big was that fish!
5. Composition holds the Key
Think about not only what you want to capture but also how.
Try different angles – moving your camera to the right or the left, and higher (stand on that fence) or lower (crouch down) gives a different and sometimes much more beautiful perspective.
6. Be Prepared
The first part of this tip is to be open to all sorts of photos and ready to snap anything and everything that takes your interest not necessarily just the ones that re-create everyone else’s photos.
7. Put down your Camera
While having some fantastic photos of your luxury charter yacht vacation to share on social media and show your friends back home may feel important do remember to sometimes put your camera down and focus on all that you have in front of you, enjoy the time with your loved ones and all that your luxury private yacht offers you. You may also wish to put your camera down to put it on a tripod or similar to help you get that great image.
