Read below for some history behind the Magnum 56.
Bestia was new and successful, but clients wanted a larger Magnum and the 53’, launched nearly twenty years before, looked a bit outdated and needed more space. Katrin thus thought of stretching the 53’ hull to 56’ to provide the additional space that clients wanted both in the interiors and in the engine room, and she called on Paolo Martin for a new deck. Paolo Martin designed a beautiful deck and the additional space in the interiors provided the two en-suite comfortable cabins and heads that clients were now looking for.
The first Magnum 56 launched in 1996 was equipped with twin Caterpillar 3412 diesels of 1300 hp each coupled to Arneson surface drives. She is yellow and named Kat Cat, in honor of Katrin and of Caterpillar. The first owner, John Fabick, the world’s largest Caterpillar dealer, was so enthused with the performance when she was launched that he not only wanted to honor Caterpillar, but insisted on adding Katrin’s name as a tribute. Before setting off on his first journey he asked the Bishop to bless her.
“The Magnum 56,” he wrote, “is one of the most exciting and gratifying experiences in life. The cruising at high-speeds is unsurpassed. A wonderful and sophisticated accomplishment.”
well i know alot of boat owners prefer Caterpillar, but i prefer MTU Sorry, like i’ve always said if money was no option,i personally love the 70 footer hooked upto a pair of MTU 2600 HP’s and ASD12’s,and since i’m a Retired/Disabled Live Concert Engineer.i know exactly what kind of sound system i would put in. the output would be around 15,000 Watts Total. OH and that sound would be Audiophile not BOOM BOOM, Clear sound No Distortion.
I bought Kat-Cat in 1997 after the passing away of Mr Fabick .It is a very special boat and one of the best Magnum created.Since then i cruise in the Aegean and Mediterranian seas with lot of pleasure.I am looking forward for a fantastic summer ahead.
